Thrillers continue to dominate the top five titles in both the US and the UK, reinforcing the genre’s broad cross-market appeal. In the UK, three of the top five films are thrillers – The Housemaid, Shelter, and 28 Years Later Part 2: The Bone Temple. In the US, thrillers also feature prominently in the top five films through Send Help, Shelter, and Mercy (2026).
The US top five was led by YouTube creator Markiplier’s self-distributed film Iron Lung, which captured 27.6% of the audience. The film skewed heavily young, with over half of its US audience aged 13–28, underscoring the power of creator-led releases to mobilise Gen Z and younger millennial moviegoers.
At the opposite end of the demographic spectrum, Melania demonstrated a strong older-audience profile. In the US, 86% of its audience was aged 45+, with half aged 65 or over, positioning the title as a clear outlier within the top five.
Overall US attendance increased 55% compared to the previous weekend, driven primarily by Iron Lung and Melania. Both titles over-indexed with infrequent moviegoers (defined as attending fewer than six cinema sessions in the past six months).
