weekend insights

4-6 September 2026

Spider-Man: Brand New Day held onto the top spot in both the US and UK this week, making it the only film to feature in both countries’ top five rankings.

In the US, new release By Any Means made a strong impact, debuting in second place, while Coyote vs ACME took third. Buddy finished fourth but continued to build momentum with a stronger second weekend than its debut, suggesting positive word of mouth among audiences. Its audience skewed slightly male (54% compared with 46% female) and was driven primarily by younger moviegoers, with 12 to 24-year-olds accounting for 45% of attendees, followed by 25 to 44-year-olds at 40%.

The UK top five told a different story, with no new releases breaking through. Instead, holdover titles dominated, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day retaining the top spot ahead of The Odyssey and Insidious: Out of the Further.
